  1. What is iBriefcase?
iBriefcase is a simple web-based substitute for an FTP program, which can be complicated to use for a novice.  It allows you to easily upload files from your computer to your personal space on I-Land's servers, later copying the files to other systems.  It's best suited for people who need to move files between home, office, and/or school. (Return to Questions)
  2. How can I access my iBriefcase?
You'll log in using your I-Land username and password at http://briefcase.iland.net.  A separate briefcase is available for each email account. (Return to Questions)
  3. How can I create a folder?
To create a folder, first login to iBriefcase.  On the right hand side (both top and bottom of the page) you'll see the "Create Folder" options.  Click on either link to proceed to the Create Folder page. (Return to Questions)
  4. How do I open a folder?
From the main iBriefcase screen, simply click on the highlighted name of the folder that you wish to open, or click on the "folder" icon immediately to the left of the folder name.  You'll be shown a screen that lists the contents of the folder. (Return to Questions)
  5. How do I edit a folder name?
From the main iBriefcase screen, click on the "pencil" (edit) icon that corresponds to the folder name you wish to change.  You'll be given the ability to change the name of the folder.  You may NOT change the name of the folder while the folder is open. (Return to Questions)
  6. How do I delete a folder?
From the main iBriefcase screen, click on the "trash" (delete) icon that corresponds to the folder you wish to delete.  If the folder is empty, you'll be asked to confirm the deletion.  At that point you may choose to continue or go back to the main iBriefcase screen (folder listing).  You can not delete a folder that has files in it.  If you want to delete a folder and it's related files, you must first delete the files (see:  "How do I delete a file from a folder" below). (Return to Questions)
  7. How do I create a sub-folder?
At this time, iBriefcase does not allow for folders within folders. (Return to Questions)
  8. How do I put a file into a folder?
After you have logged into the I-Land iBriefcase and opened a folder, you may place a file in it by choosing one of the "add file" options on the right-hand side of the page (they are just above and just below the file listing).  From the "upload a file" screen, you may either type the actual path to the file on you computer (i.e. c:\test\file.gif) or choose "browse" to find the file on your computer.  Files larger than 2mb may not be placed in an iBriefcase. (Return to Questions)
  9. How do I get a file from a folder?
After you have logged into I-Land iBriefcase and opened a folder, you may get a file from the folder by using your mouse to select the highlighted file name.  A "file download" window will appear, asking if you want to open the file or save it to disk.  Choose "save to disk" to place a copy of the file on your hard disk.  You'll be given the opportunity to rename the file and choose where it should be located on your computer or network. If you do not want to save the file to your local computer, but just want to run or view the file, you may choose "open this file" instead of "save to disk".  (These are the terms used in Microsoft Internet Explorer.  Though other terms may be used in other browsers, the basic theory will remain the same from one browser to the next.) 10. How do I move a file from one folder to another?
After you have logged into I-Land iBriefcase and opened a folder, you can move any number of files in that folder to another folder by first clicking in the box to the left of each highlighted file name.  When all files that you want to move have been selected, as noted by the check marks in the related boxes, select a destination folder from the drop down list to the left of the move button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.  (Note that the drop down list contains a listing of all your existing folders within iBriefcase.  A folder must have already been created before you can move files to it.) Then just click on the "Move" button and the files will be moved to your selected destination folder.  (Return to Questions)
  11. How do I delete a file from a folder?
After you have logged into I-Land iBriefcase and opened a folder, you can delete any number of files in that folder by first clicking in the box to the left of each highlighted file name.  When all files that you want to delete have been selected,  as noted by the check marks in the related boxes, click on the "Delete" button.  You'll be shown a list of all files marked for deletion and given an opportunity to Continue or abort the delete function (by choosing "Back to <folder name>". 12. Where are my files actually stored?
When you upload a file to iBriefcase, it is actually stored in your personal space on I-Land's server in a subdirectory called "Briefcase". (

  13. How much space do I have to store files?
You have a total of 10MB of storage space for each email address.  This space includes any space taken up by personal web pages, email that is on the server, and any other files, including iBriefcase files.  Be careful to remove all files that you do not need to leave on the server.  Leaving extra files on the server may eventually put you over your 10MB limit, causing mail that is intended for you to be returned to the sender as undeliverable. 14. Can anyone else view these files?
Based on assigned file and folder access rights, only people with access to both your username and password have access to these files.  Still, to protect confidentiality, sensitive documents should not be loaded to iBriefcase.

iBriefcase is a helpful service provided free to our customers.  However, we do not warrant that any or all files placed in customer storage areas on our servers will be completely inaccessible by any or all members of the general public. (

  15. What types of files can I put in my iBriefcase?
You may place any file type (up to 2MB) into your briefcase.  Refer to I-Land's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for specifics about the use of this or any I-Land service.  Do not use the iBriefcase to hold your only copy of an important document.  iBriefcase is a helpful service provided free to our customers.  However, we do not warrant that any or all files uploaded to the briefcase or left in any customer storage areas on our servers will be available when required at a future date.
